It is summer and it is that time of year everyone plans at least one out-of-town trip! After all the stress of planning, wouldn’t it be a bummer if someone gets sick along the way? Sadly, it happens very often; it’s called the summer cold. The fact that you’re going to and through new places means you’ll meet new viruses that your body is not used to.
Now, it’s natural to buy some medicines for cough and colds to prepare for the worst case scenario. What would be even better is to prevent getting sick altogether. Here are some smoothie recipes that could help boost your immune system while keeping cool for the summer.
Composed of ¼ cup of cranberries and 2 peeled oranges, this smoothie is full of vitamin C. It is a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and sour, and sufficient amounts of healthy fats and protein.
Uncle Matt’s Orange Energy Drink
Perfect for your health and summer sports! While Uncle Matt’s isn’t available here in the Philippines, you can substitute Tipco 100% Juices by Del Monte (which is available in any supermarket here) before hitting the gym or the court!
Mint Persian Detox
While citrus is the most basic source of vitamin C, you can also find high amounts of it in cucumbers. The blend of vegetables and fruits makes this beverage full of vitamins and minerals while providing good detox for your digestion and complexion.
This delicious drink is made of carrots, pumpkin seeds, apples, and lemons. Not only is it full of vitamin A and C (which helps make your skin look fresh all the time), but it also helps you grow and maintain strong, healthy bones.
Did you know that kiwi berries contain five times the amount of vitamin C than oranges? They may be bite-sized but they provide that punch needed to keep the colds away! Almonds provide healthy fat, protein, and fiber while wheatgrass is full of chlorophyll. This smoothie is a sweet and satisfying complete meal replacement that still keeps those calories low, for those of you still trying to achieve or maintain that summer bod.
Coconut Carrot Cake
Who doesn’t love cake? The walnuts in this drink provide the texture and nutty sweetness of cake as well as potent cancer-fighting compounds. Top it off with some unsweetened coconut flakes and it will definitely feel like you’re having dessert without those processed sugars. With the presence of carrots, bananas and cinnamon, you’re sure to get your fix of vitamin C, fiber, and natural anti-inflammatories.
Carrot Orange Creamsicle
Although the name would make you think that the stars found in this smoothie are carrots and apples, it’s actually the Ataulfo mango. It’s a type of mango that sweeter and softer and less stringy than the regular version. Certainly, it is a treat to have a mango-flavored smoothie to taste without drinking something too thick or full of chemicals.
