Getting sick is extremely inconvenient and uncomfortable for anyone. It could also be very expensive due to bills from going to the doctor and other meds. It’s a good thing that here in the Philippines, generic medicine is available at affordable prices.

Before we had the many types of medicine available today, the traditional method of fighting symptoms of illness was herbal medicine as well as other natural remedies. Many of these are still used today due to their affordability and effectiveness. In fact, there are a quite a few that can already be found in your kitchen!

Cayenne Pepper

When consumed, cayenne pepper can aid in digestion whenever the body has trouble breaking down the food that we eat. When mixed in hot tea it aids the body process and effectively excrete waste. In addition, cayenne pepper is a great source of vitamin C, and can also act as an energy drink when combined with any citrus-rich drink.

To ease a sore throat, the cayenne tea can either be drank as tea or gargled. Mix ¼ teaspoon of cayenne pepper and 2 teaspoon of honey into 1 cup of hot water to make the tea. Stir ¼ teaspoon of cayenne powder into hot water and until it is warm enough to be gargled. For toothaches, you can apply a small amount to help alleviate the pain on the gums and tooth. Also, when immediate medical help is not available, sprinkle cayenne pepper on a wound to stop the bleeding.

The benefits of drinking peppermint tea include breaking a fever, helping gas move throughout the body, reducing pain associated with indigestion, bloating, and cramps, preventing the body from vomiting, and normalizing blood pressure and temperature.

Turmeric Powder

Turmeric powder offers a myriad of health benefits. It can strengthen the body’s immune system with its anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, and anti-viral compounds, as well as its antioxidant property. It can help improve glucose control in those with diabetes, and increases the effectiveness of medication used to treat the illness. Sprinkle turmeric powder on cuts and burns as a disinfectant, or use it as food seasoning to help reduce cholesterol levels. Turmeric is so powerful that it is said to help prevent prostate cancer and the growth of tumor cells.

Natural remedies are extremely helpful in many ways, without breaking the bank. Aside from treating various symptoms of the body, consuming certain herbs and spices can help prevent sickness or minimize the symptoms in the first place. But make sure to be careful and discuss these with your doctor as there are still some risks with herbal medicine.
