President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently paid a visit to The Generics Pharmacy (TGP) Nagtahan branch along J.P Laurel St. in San Miguel, Manila. The President, together with DOH National Drug Policy (NDP) Undersecretary Mario Villaverde (left), Phil. Int’l Trading Corp (PITC) VP for Sales and Marketing Joe Cortez, (2nd from the right), was personally welcomed by TGP President Benjamin Liuson (right), who briefed her about the savings that the customers could get when they purchase generic medicines. Liuson cited samples, one of which is a heart medication from a leading brand that costs P44, while the generic counterpart, Amlodipine Besylate 5mg; costs only P8. At the store, President Arroyo spent her time interviewing several customers, mostly mothers from the nearby neighborhood, about their medical conditions and the particular benefits that they get from buying generics. The President also lauded the drugstore chain for helping the government in providing accessible healthcare for more Filipinos by introducing inexpensive quality medicines in the local market. The Generics Pharmacy, the country’s first and leading chain of drugstores offering quality generic medicines, sells more than 300 imported and locally produced generic drugs for both common and serious ailments, antibiotics, vitamins, and food supplements. Now with 300 outlets, the growing drugstore chain conducts free clinics in some of its selected branches and offers 20% outright discount to its senior citizen customers.
