WHAT IS THE MEDICINE USED FOR?
(Indication) Monotherapy in patients w/ locally advanced, nonmetastatic prostate cancer.
HOW MUCH AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE THIS MEDICINE?
(Dosage) Adult Males Including the Elderly: 1 tablet once daily with or without food.
Treatment with bicalutamide may be started either 3 days before or at the same time as commencing treatment with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) analogue or at the same time as surgical castration.
(Contraindications) Co-administration w/ terfenadine, astemizole or cisapride. Hereditary problems of galactose intolerance, the Lapp-lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
(Precautions) Moderate to severe hepatic impairment; preexisting diabetes. Periodic liver function test & monitor blood glucose. Co-administration w/ drugs metabolized predominantly by CYP3A4. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
(Adverse Reactions) Anemia, anorexia, decreased libido, depression, dizziness somnolence, hot flush, abdominal pain, constipation, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea, hepatic changes (including elevated levels of transaminases, jaundice), hepatobiliary disorders, rash, alopecia, hirsutism/hair regrowth, dry skin, pruritus, hematuria, gynecomastia, breast tenderness, impotence, asthenia, chest pain, edema, wt gain, interstitial lung disease.
