WHAT IS THE MEDICINE USED FOR?
(Indication) Treatment of chronic hepatitis B infection in adults w/ compensated liver disease w/ evidence of active viral replication, persistently elevated liver enzyme values, & histologically active disease including those resistant to lamivudine.
HOW MUCH AND HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU USE THIS MEDICINE?
(Dosage) Nucleoside treatment-naive patients 500 mcg once daily. Patients w/ history of hepatitis B viraemia while using lamivudine or w/ known lamivudine resistance 1 mg once daily.
(Precautions) Closely monitor hepatic function after discontinuing treatment. Renal impairment
(Adverse Reactions) Headache, fatigue, dizziness & nausea. Lactic acidosis associated w/ severe hepatomegaly & steatosis.
