Dangers Of Healthy Living

“Too much of a good thing is bad.” – Unknown.

It’s true. Having money is good, too much of it is greed. Food is beneficial, but too much of it leads to gluttony. Eating too much sweets can lead to diabetes. Too much medicine for fever doesn’t boost your body’s natural defenses against infections. A surplus of red meat in the diet leads to cancer and heart disease, according to the BBC. Working is good, too, but too much of that can lead you to live a workaholic life.

Is it true for healthy living as well?

Yes, it is. An excess of healthy living can lead you to become an obsessed individual, deprived of other important aspects that contribute to a wholesome lifestyle. We’ll take a look at the dangers of living healthy and how you can correct that.

Body faculties will be affected

Some people cut out meat from their diet in an attempt to go “healthy”. But this does not bode well for the functions of the body.

Iron deficiency causes anemia, a condition that reduces the amount of oxygen from your body. Because of this you may feel fatigued, lightheaded, and in some cases, cause you to pass out.

Increased weight gain

Dieting is a method people resort to when they want to lose weight. But a team of researchers from UCLA discovered that most people lose 5 to 10 pounds during the onset of a diet. But that does not guarantee consistency. In fact, they learned that over the long run (a period of 3-5 years), sticking to your diet program actually risks a higher weight gain rather than sustaining it.

Exhaustion

Pushing your body past its limits could also lead to exhaustion and sickness. Fitness expert Chris Kesser says on his website that certain styles of exercise can lead to physical exhaustion on a regular basis. Too much exercise could also lead to sleeping problems, indigestion, and weight gain, all of which are detrimental to the human body. Research has also proven that over-exercising could bring your immune system down, leaving your body susceptible to various sicknesses.

You might end up shunning friends and family

Working out at the gym or going for a run takes up a portion of our time during the day. At most, 2 hours is a good time to hit those barbells and pump iron, but you might be putting in too much time that you end up alienating yourself from friends and family.

Healthy Relationships

Remember that interacting and creating relationships with people is an important part of a healthy lifestyle too.

After reading these detrimental effects, how do you now right these wrongs and still remain healthy?

The answer is a very simple, but difficult word to execute: Balance.

Be strict about the time you spend at the gym. Remember, building muscles takes time, and you need a lot of it to rest so that it grows properly.

When it comes to food, don’t cut out a particular group (like meat or a particular fruit). All you need to do is control the portions you eat. Remember: It’s much better to eat 5 scattered meals per day instead of 3 big meals every 6 hours.

Don’t think of cutting out dessert, too. One of the keys of staying happy (and healthy) is indulging every once in a while. That, and also spending time with people you love.
