There are different types of contraceptives that you can use for protection during or after sexual intercourse. If you think that these contraceptives did not work and that you may be pregnant, it would be recommended that you take a pregnancy test and consult your doctor.

The Pill

The Pill

Hormonal Contraceptives are used by women to prevent the development of their eggs, which will prevent them from getting pregnant. The Pill has a 99% success rate if taken correctly. There is also an Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP) that should be taken up to three days after unprotected sexual intercourse.

Besides hormonal contraceptives and barrier contraceptives, there are types of devices that you can get implanted for long-term use.

Intrauterine Device

Intrauterine Device

Meron itong dalawang uri: may hormones at walang hormones.

Permanent Contraception

Permanent Contraception

Permanent Contraception is also called sterilisation. For men, it is called a vasectomy, and for women, it is called tubal ligation. This needs to be done by licensed doctors in trusted hospitals. After these procedures, any future pregnancies will not be possible. This procedure is extremely difficult and close to impossible to reverse.

In addition to devices and pills, another type of contraception is simply being educated and aware of your body.

Fertility Awareness

Fertility Awareness

Key Takeaway

Family planning is important in order to control the constant rise of the Philippines’ rate of population. The subject aims to promote smart family planning by encouraging families to observe their own lifestyle to see if they are ready to have another child. It also encourages long-term planning by teaching families about proper birth spacing for the sake of the mother, but also for the rest of the family.

Contraceptives can help prevent pregnancy for sexually active partners. Talk to your doctor about the different types of contraceptives to find the one best suited for you.
