Healthy Food for Babies

By TGP / Categories: Healthy Lifestyle

There’s a very long list of drugstores in the Philippines that carry nearly everything a baby needs in their early years. This includes diapers, baby wipes, feeding bottles, and baby food. When feeding the baby anything other than food specifically created for infants, you must be extremely careful in discerning which is good for them.

Majority of the food that a child consumes, from their first years until they grow to teens, must be nutritious. Sufficient amount of nutrients such as proteins, carbohydrates, good fats, and vitamins is essential for their growth and energy. Breast milk is all they need from birth up to their first few months of life. They start becoming ready for solid foods at about four to six months, when you can begin to introduce the following healthy foods in addition to their breast or formula diet.

Avocado

If you’re looking to feed your baby their first fruit, giving them some avocado would be a great choice. With its mild taste and smooth texture, the avocado is a fruit that can be easily mashed and consumed by a baby. Avocados contain non-saturated fats, which helps boost brain development. In terms of fat composition, the avocado is similar to breast milk.

Bananas

Another great choice of fruit to give to your baby, bananas are a great source of vitamins and minerals like potassium, iron, and vitamin B6 and C. Bananas have a sweet taste, and like avocados, they are easy to mash. Bananas also prevent your baby form having diarrhea and constipation.

Potatoes

In addition to fruits, vegetables are also important to add in a baby's diet. A great source of vitamin C and potassium, potatoes can easily be mixed with other healthy vegetables. This can be also served with minute amounts of meat in puree form to give your baby a nice healthy meal.

Broccoli

Media represents broccoli as something that kids tend to abhor, and there is truth in it. However, it really is a great food to introduce to your baby early on. Though broccoli has a strong flavor, introducing it to your baby early will help them get used to it. For nutrients, broccoli contains calcium, folate, and fiber, and can help prevent cancer.

Chicken and Beef

Once the baby is ready to consume more solid foods, giving them lean meat such as chicken and beef would be a nice start. Meat gives the human body protein and iron, which can prevent your baby from becoming anemic.

Yogurts

To give your baby a nice cold dessert or snack that is also rich with vitamins and minerals, yogurt is definitely the better choice compared to ice cream. Yogurt is rich in protein and calcium, and has good bacteria to help with their digestion.

Introducing the right types of food early on ensure that your tiny tot gets the right nutrients to help their bodies grow and develop. Providing proper nutrition is one of the best ways you can show them love and care only the best parents can give.
