How much and how often should you use the product?
Apply a thin film of clobetasol on the area and rub it gently. Only use as directed. Do not use clobetasol to treat acne, rosacea, or rashes around or near the mouth.
Do not swallow or ingest clobetasol. If you accidentally swallow it, immediately call your doctor or go to the hospital.
Keep in mind that clobetasol is intended for short-term use only (2 weeks or up to 4 weeks for scalp psoriasis). If you use clobetasol for plaque psoriasis, stop using the medication once your symptoms have cleared up.
Mechanism of Action
Topical corticosteroids exhibit anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, and vasoconstrictive properties. At the cellular level, corticosteroids induce peptides called lipocortins. These antagonize phospholipase A2, which is an enzyme that causes the breakdown of leukocyte lysosomal membranes to release arachidonic acid. This step triggers the decrease in the formation and release of endogenous inflammatory mediators including prostaglandins, kinins, histamine, liposomal enzymes, and the complement system.
