How much and how often should you use the product?

Co-amoxiclav is usually taken three times a day, every 8 hours. Use this medicine for the full prescribed length of time. Your symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cleared. If this happens, keep taking the medicine as prescribed. Skipping doses may also increase your risk of further infection that is resistant to antibiotics. Co-amoxiclav will not treat a viral infection such as the flu or a common cold.

Take co-amoxiclav at the same time each day.

Do not share your co-amoxiclav with another person even if you share the same symptoms.

Mechanism of Action

Co-amoxiclav is a combination of two ingredients, amoxicillin and clavulanic acid.

Amoxicillin belongs to the penicillin family and works by interfering with the ability of the bacteria to form cell walls. It creates holes in the bacterial cell walls which kills the bacteria-causing infection.

Some bacteria have grown resistant to penicillin, producing beta-lactamases which prevent the antibiotics from working. Clavulanic acid acts as a beta-lactamase inhibitor and stops bacteria from combating amoxicillin.
