Children below eight-years-old should only take doxycycline in severe or life-threatening cases. Doxycycline can cause permanent yellowing or graying of children’s teeth.

Using doxycycline during pregnancy could harm the unborn child or cause permanent tooth discoloration later in the child’s life. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant before taking doxycycline.

Doxycycline can make birth control pill less effective.
