Usual Adult Dose for Atopic Dermatitis
Oral: 25 mg orally 3 to 4 times a day
Use: Management of pruritus due to histamine-mediated pruritus and allergic conditions (e.g., atopic/contact dermatoses, chronic urticaria)
Mechanism of Action
The H1 histamine receptor is responsible for mediating hypersensitivity and allergic reactions. Exposure to an allergen triggers the release of histamine, which further releases pro-inflammatory cytokines.
Hydroxyzine is an inverse agonist of histamine H1-receptors, meaning they dampen the activity of receptors.
