How much and how often should you use the product?

Before giving this medicine to your child, please consult with your doctor and follow their recommendation. You may also refer to the product packaging and compare the child’s weight or age to find the right dose.

To ensure that you are giving the right measurement, please use the provided measuring cup, spoon, or dropper. Before pouring out the medicine into the measuring device, check the markings to see if you can read them clearly. Make sure to clean and store the device properly after each use. Refrain from using a kitchen tablespoon or teaspoon instead of the provided measuring device as this will result in an inaccurate dose.

Do not give zinc gluconate with food that is high in calcium or phosphorous at the same time. This can make it harder for your child’s body to absorb the zinc gluconate. Calcium and phosphorous rich food include milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, dried beans, peas, lentils, nuts, peanut butter, beer, soft drinks, and hot chocolate.

Please remember that zinc gluconate is only part of a complete program of treatment and should be combined with proper diet, exercise, and weight control.

Pharmacologic action: Zinc is an essential mineral that is found in almost every cell. It stimulates the activity of approximately 100 enzymes (IOM 2001). Zinc deficiency may be associated with an increased risk of infection. When used to treat the common cold, zinc may interfere with rhinovirus cleavage or adhesion, and may protect plasma membranes from microbial toxins and complement (Nahas 2011).
