DESCRIPTION
LACTONE 25 Spironolactone Tablet contains spironolactone, a potassium sparing diuretic and aldosterone antagonist. It works by promoting sodium and water excretion while conserving potassium. Spironolactone also counteracts the effects of aldosterone, reducing fluid retention and blood pressure, and has additional anti androgenic effects.

USES
• Management of edema associated with heart failure
• Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Management of ascites due to liver cirrhosis
• Treatment of primary hyperaldosteronism
• Adjunct therapy in congestive heart failure
• Management of hypokalemia
• Treatment of conditions with excess aldosterone production
• Off label use for acne or hormonal disorders, as prescribed

DOSAGE
Use strictly as directed by a physician.
• Adults: 25–100 mg daily, given as a single dose or divided doses, depending on indication
• Hypertension / Heart failure: Commonly 25 mg once daily
• Children: Dosage as prescribed based on body weight and condition
Tablet may be taken with or without food and should be taken at the same time each day.

PRECAUTIONS
• Risk of hyperkalemia; regular monitoring of potassium levels is required
• Use with caution in patients with kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes
• Avoid potassium supplements or potassium rich salt substitutes unless advised
• Contraindicated in patients with anuria, acute renal failure, or severe hyperkalemia
• Anti androgenic effects may cause hormonal changes
• Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Inform the physician of all other medications being taken to prevent interactions

SIDE EFFECTS
• Increased potassium levels (hyperkalemia)
