DESCRIPTION
LUPIMET Glimepiride + Metformin Tablet is a fixed dose combination oral antidiabetic medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Glimepiride, a sulfonylurea, helps increase insulin secretion from the pancreas, while Metformin, a biguanide, improves insulin sensitivity and reduces glucose production in the liver. Together, they provide effective control of blood glucose levels.

USES
• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Improvement of glycemic control in patients inadequately controlled on single agent therapy
• Adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels
• Reduction of fasting and post prandial blood glucose

DOSAGE
Use strictly as directed by a physician.
• Adults:
1 tablet once daily or as prescribed; dose may be adjusted based on blood glucose response
Tablet is preferably taken with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and risk of hypoglycemia.

PRECAUTIONS
• Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Risk of hypoglycemia, especially if meals are skipped or with increased physical activity
• Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver impairment
• Metformin should be temporarily discontinued before major surgery or radiologic procedures using iodinated contrast
• Avoid excessive alcohol intake due to increased risk of lactic acidosis
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose, kidney function, and liver function is recommended
• Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding

SIDE EFFECTS
• Hypoglycemia (sweating, dizziness, hunger, tremors)
• Gastrointestinal discomfort (nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain)
• Headache
• Metallic taste
• Weight changes
• Rare but serious: lactic acidosis (associated with metformin), allergic reactions
Most side effects are dose related and improve with continued use or dose adjustment.
