DESCRIPTION
DAPHNE PILLS contain lynestrenol, a progestin-only oral contraceptive (POP).
Each tablet contains:
• Lynestrenol 500 mcg (0.5 mg)
It works by:
• Thickening cervical mucus, preventing sperm penetration
• Altering the endometrium, reducing implantation likelihood
• In some cases, suppressing ovulation
Unlike combined oral contraceptives, it does not contain estrogen.

• Prevention of pregnancy (especially suitable for women who cannot take estrogen)
• Contraception during breastfeeding
• Alternative for women with estrogen-related contraindications

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
• Adults and adolescents:
o Take one tablet daily, continuously without interruption
o Tablets must be taken at the same time each day
Initiation:
• Start on the first day of menstruation
• If started later, use additional contraception for the first 48 hours
Missed Dose:
• If >3 hours late, take the missed tablet as soon as remembered
• Continue the next tablet at the usual time
• Use backup contraception for the next 48 hours

PRECAUTIONS
Use with caution or avoid in patients with:
• Breast cancer or hormone-dependent tumors
• Severe liver disease
• Unexplained vaginal bleeding
General Precautions:
• Does not protect against HIV or other sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
• Strict adherence to timing is important for effectiveness
• May cause irregular menstrual bleeding patterns
• Suitable for lactating women
Drug Interactions:
• Reduced contraceptive effectiveness with:
o Rifampicin
o Certain antiepileptics (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine)
o Some antiretrovirals

SIDE EFFECTS
Common:
• Irregular menstrual bleeding or spotting
• Amenorrhea (absence of menstruation)

Less Common:

• Severe abdominal pain
