DESCRIPTION
QUADMAX is a fixed dose combination antituberculosis medication containing Rifampicin, Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, and Ethambutol. It is used in the intensive phase of tuberculosis (TB) treatment. This combination works by killing Mycobacterium tuberculosis through multiple mechanisms, improving treatment effectiveness, reducing bacterial resistance, and simplifying dosing to enhance patient compliance.

DOSAGE

• Adults:
Dosage is weight based and determined by a healthcare professional according to national or WHO TB treatment guidelines
• Tablets are usually taken once daily, preferably on an empty stomach

PRECAUTIONS
• Strict medical supervision required throughout treatment
• Monitor liver function tests, as several components may cause hepatotoxicity
• Rifampicin may discolor urine, sweat, saliva, and tears (harmless but permanent staining of contact lenses may occur)
• Use with caution in patients with liver disease, gout, optic neuritis, or renal impairment
• Numerous drug interactions occur, especially with rifampicin (e.g., oral contraceptives, anticoagulants, antiretrovirals)
• Report immediately any symptoms such as:
o Yellowing of skin or eyes
o Severe nausea or vomiting
o Visual disturbances
o Numbness or tingling
• Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6) supplementation may be prescribed alongside isoniazid
