DESCRIPTION
ABDIN Aripiprazole Tablet 5 mg contains aripiprazole, an atypical antipsychotic with a unique mechanism of action. It acts as a partial dopamine D₂ and serotonin 5 HT₁A receptor agonist and a serotonin 5 HT₂A receptor antagonist, helping to stabilize dopamine and serotonin activity in the brain. This contributes to improvement in mood, thinking, and behavior with a lower risk of certain side effects compared with some other antipsychotics.

USES
• Treatment of schizophrenia
• Management of bipolar disorder, including:
o Acute manic and mixed episodes
o Maintenance therapy
• Adjunct treatment of major depressive disorder (as add on therapy), as prescribed
• Management of irritability associated with autistic disorder
• Other psychotic or mood disorders, as directed by a physician

DOSAGE
• Dosage is individualized based on the condition, patient response, and tolerability
• Adults: A common starting or maintenance dose may include 5 mg once daily, adjusted as prescribed
• May be taken once daily, with or without food
• Tablets should be taken at the same time each day
• Do not discontinue abruptly without medical advice

PRECAUTIONS
• Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, seizure disorders, or hepatic impairment
• Monitor for metabolic changes (weight gain, blood glucose, lipid levels)
• Increased risk of suicidal thoughts in young adults during early treatment; close monitoring is recommended
• May cause orthostatic hypotension, especially during dose initiation or adjustment
• Not recommended in elderly patients with dementia related psychosis
• Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if clearly needed and prescribed
• Inform the healthcare provider of all medications being taken

SIDE EFFECTS
Common side effects may include:
• Akathisia (restlessness)
• Headache
• Insomnia or sleep disturbances
• Anxiety
• Nausea or vomiting
Less common or serious side effects:
• Weight gain
• Metabolic changes (elevated blood sugar or lipids)
• Extrapyramidal symptoms
• Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (rare but serious)
• Allergic reactions
