DESCRIPTION
FORXIGA Dapagliflozin Film Coated Tablet contains dapagliflozin, an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the sodium glucose co transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor class. It works by reducing glucose reabsorption in the kidneys, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion and lowering of blood glucose levels. Dapagliflozin also provides cardiovascular and renal protective benefits beyond glucose control.

USES
• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control
• Reduction of risk of hospitalization for heart failure
• Treatment of chronic heart failure (with reduced or preserved ejection fraction), as prescribed
• Slowing progression of chronic kidney disease, as advised
Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.

DOSAGE
Use strictly as directed by a physician.
• Adults: 10 mg once daily
Tablet may be taken with or without food and should be taken at the same time each day. Swallow whole with water.

PRECAUTIONS
• May increase risk of genital and urinary tract infections
• Assess kidney function before starting therapy and periodically thereafter
• Use with caution in patients with volume depletion or those on diuretics due to risk of low blood pressure
• Not recommended in patients with severe renal impairment, end stage renal disease, or on dialysis
• Monitor for signs of ketoacidosis, even if blood glucose is not markedly elevated
• Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Inform the physician of all other medications being taken

SIDE EFFECTS
• Genital fungal infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Increased urination
• Thirst
• Dizziness or low blood pressure
• Headache
• Rare but serious: diabetic ketoacidosis, severe dehydration
Most side effects are mild to moderate and occur early in treatment.
