DESCRIPTION
TGP Glimepiride Tablet 2 mg is an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the sulfonylurea class. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin and improving the body’s response to insulin, thereby helping to lower and control blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

USES
• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control
• May be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic medicines, such as metformin or insulin, as prescribed

DOSAGE
• Adults:
The usual starting dose is 1 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on blood glucose response.
• 2 mg once daily may be prescribed as a starting or maintenance dose.
• Take with breakfast or the first main meal of the day.
• Dosage should be individualized and adjusted only by a healthcare professional.
• Regular blood glucose monitoring is recommended.

PRECAUTIONS
• Do not use if allergic to glimepiride or other sulfonylureas
• Use with caution in patients with:
o Kidney or liver impairment
o Irregular eating habits or malnutrition
o Elderly patients
• Risk of hypoglycemia increases with skipped meals, excessive exercise, or alcohol intake
• Alcohol should be avoided or used with caution
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless prescribed
• Inform the doctor of all other medicines being taken

SIDE EFFECTS
Common side effects may include:
• Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)
• Dizziness

Less common or serious side effects:
• Weight gain

Description

“Always take glimepiride tablets exactly as your doctor has instructed you. You should check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure. Your doctor may start you on 1mg glimepiride per day. If necessary the dose will be increased every 1 to 2 weeks until the right dose is found, your doctor will determine when you have found the right dose. The maximum dose is 6mg of glimepiride per day. While taking glimepiride tablets, it is important that you eat regular meals and do not miss meals. If you do not follow this advice, you are at an increased risk of hypoglycemia (too little sugar in your blood). Immune system: In very rare cases, mild hypersensitivity reactions (including mild skin rashes or swelling) may develop into serious reactions with shortness of breath, a fall in blood pressure and occasionally, shock. Severe skin rashes and/or blistering may occur in very rare cases. Blood: Changes in you blood which may become apparent. Symptoms of which include: tiredness, breathless, and fast or irregular heart beats, high fever, sores on body or mouth, sking rashes, infections, bleeding from the nose or mouth, prolonged bleeding, bruising. These are generally reversible whne therapy is discontinued. Metabolism: In rare cases, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) may occur. Eyes: visual disturbances may occur, especially at the beginning of treatment. Gut: Gut problems such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, bloating and abdominal pain are very rare. The liver: In very cases, liver problems may develop, e.g. jaundice (yellowing of skin and whites of the eyes), plus hepatitis. Skin: Skin hypersensitivity reactions, such as itching, rash and swollen itchy red bumps may occur. In very rare cases, the skin becomes extremely sensitive to sunlight. Misc: A decrease in electrolyte (blood salts) may occur in very rare cases.”
