DESCRIPTION
XELEVIA Sitagliptin Film Coated Tablet contains sitagliptin, an oral antidiabetic medication classified as a dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP 4) inhibitor. It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which enhance glucose dependent insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release, thereby helping regulate blood glucose levels.

USES
• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Improvement of glycemic control as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents
• Adjunct to diet and exercise to help control blood sugar levels

DOSAGE
Use strictly as directed by a physician.
• Adults: 100 mg once daily
• Patients with renal impairment: Dose adjustment may be required based on kidney function
Tablet may be taken with or without food and should be taken at the same time each day.

PRECAUTIONS
• Not indicated for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; renal function should be assessed before and during treatment
• Monitor for signs of pancreatitis (persistent severe abdominal pain); discontinue if suspected
• Risk of hypoglycemia may increase when used with insulin or sulfonylureas
• Consult a healthcare professional before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding
• Inform the physician of all other medicines being taken

SIDE EFFECTS
• Headache
• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Nasopharyngitis
• Gastrointestinal discomfort
• Hypoglycemia (more likely when combined with other antidiabetic agents)
• Rare but serious: pancreatitis, severe joint pain, allergic reactions
Most side effects are mild and transient.
