DESCRIPTION
RITEMED Glibenclamide Tablet contains glibenclamide (also known as glyburide), an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the sulfonylurea class. It works by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. Glibenclamide is used in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus whose blood sugar is not adequately controlled by diet and exercise alone.

USES
• Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus
• Adjunct to diet and exercise for glycemic control
• Monotherapy or combination therapy with other oral antidiabetic agents, as prescribed
Not indicated for type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis.

DOSAGE
Use strictly as directed by a physician.
• Adults:
Initial dose is usually 2.5–5 mg once daily, taken with breakfast or the first main meal
• Dose may be adjusted gradually based on blood glucose response
• Maximum daily dose: As prescribed by the physician
Tablet should be swallowed whole with water and taken with meals to reduce the risk of hypoglycemia.

PRECAUTIONS
• Risk of hypoglycemia, especially with skipped meals, excessive exercise, alcohol intake, or overdose
• Use with caution in elderly patients and those with renal or hepatic impairment
• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption
• Regular monitoring of blood glucose is essential
• Inform the physician of all other medications being taken, as drug interactions may occur
• Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless clearly prescribed
• Patients should be educated on recognizing and managing hypoglycemia

SIDE EFFECTS
• Hypoglycemia (sweating, dizziness, hunger, tremors, palpitations)
• Nausea or gastrointestinal discomfort
• Weight gain
• Headache
• Skin rash or itching
• Rare but serious: blood disorders, liver enzyme abnormalities
Most side effects are dose related and may be minimized with proper meal timing and dose adjustment.
