DESCRIPTION
TGP Febuxostat Film Coated Tablet 80 mg contains febuxostat, a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. It works by decreasing the production of uric acid in the body, thereby lowering serum uric acid levels. This helps prevent urate crystal formation and reduces the frequency of gout attacks.

USES
• Treatment of chronic hyperuricemia in patients with gout
• Reduction and maintenance of serum uric acid levels
• Prevention of gout flares and urate crystal deposition during long term management

DOSAGE
• Adults: Usually 80 mg once daily, especially when adequate uric acid control is not achieved with 40 mg
• Dose adjustment is based on serum uric acid levels and clinical response
Note: Febuxostat may be taken with or without food. Gout flares may occur when initiating therapy; prophylactic anti inflammatory treatment may be recommended.

PRECAUTIONS
• Not intended for treatment of asymptomatic hyperuricemia
• Use with caution in patients with history of cardiovascular disease
• Monitor liver function tests periodically during therapy
• Do not discontinue during an acute gout attack
• Use with caution in patients with hepatic or severe renal impairment
• Contraindicated with azathioprine or mercaptopurine
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: use only if prescribed by a healthcare professional

SIDE EFFECTS
• Gout flares (particularly during initiation of therapy)
• Headache
• Nausea or diarrhea
• Rash
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Joint pain
• Rarely, serious cardiovascular events
