Save Yourself the Headache: 5 Things You Must Never Do

Categories: Headache , Medicines

Have you ever been in the hype of planning the ultimate bonding activity with your friends like mountain climbing and camping on top of the clouds? Surely, that’s a great way to spend a long weekend! After all, who doesn’t love adventures? I bet you’ll have a good time singing (and hopefully making fun of) “The Climb” together while diverting your attention from exhaustion. Oh, and those traditional ghost stories while gathering around the bonfire is a must!

Isn’t that great? Not quite really, if… you got sick a day before your plans. So instead of grabbing rope for climbing, you are now grabbing the nearest medicine for headache and fever. What could be the culprit? Maybe you did some things you musn’t do, especially if you are prone to terrible headaches.

Go check this list of things shouldn’t do if you want to save yourself from a headache and get to do what has been planned.

1. You musn’t oversleep!

Okay. This one is the most forgotten commandment of all. But if you burned the midnight oil every day for work during the week and then sloth around during the weekends, you are seriously welcoming headache with open arms.

As the tension of the week subsides, your level of stress hormones drop, which causes a rapid release of neurotransmitters in your brain. These send impulses to blood vessels to constrict and dilate, thus the headache.

The better way to relax? Stop pretending to be a sloth by sleeping all the day during weekends. Get up, workout and see the beauty of the world.

2. You mustn’t get very angry. ‘Coz you won’t like it when you’re angry *Hulk smash*

Hulk smashing aside, breathe deeply and slowly when you get angry. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth to relax your head and neck muscles.

Hating and throwing a fit does you no good, it will only cost you a severe headache. Because when you’re angry, muscles in the back of your neck and scalp tense up causing that dreaded headache.

3. You musn’t spend the day talking over the phone.

Aside from the fact that this is time consuming, holding your phone between your shoulder and head can strain muscles and cause headache. So use a special headset if you really want to spend the day doing conference calls with your friends.

4. You musn’t slouch!

Did you know that poor posture causes tension in your upper back, neck and shoulders, which can lead to a headache? That’s another good motivation to stand up with stomach in, chest out – looking sexy and sophisticated is just the bonus. You should also avoid sitting or standing in one position for a long time to avoid muscle tension in your upper body.

5. You mustn’t drench yourself in perfume!

You’ve been warned. If you follow those mentioned “what-nots” above and yet still find yourself suffering from headaches, then certain smells could be the culprit.

Yes, including that Chanel No. 5 you always marinate yourself in.

Household cleaners, along with perfumes and fragranced air fresheners, contain chemicals that can also lead to headaches. The best thing you can do is to avoid heavy perfumes and strong-smelling soaps, shampoos and conditioners.

Very well, friend. You made it to the end! Did you find your headache culprit?
