Guaifenesin, sometimes called glyceryl guaiacolate, is an expectorant. It is used to loosen the congestion and mucus in areas such as the chest, throat, and lungs, making it easier to cough out. It opens up the airways in the chest and makes it easier for phlegm to be expelled through coughing.
The guaifenesin syrup contains:
- 100 mg of guaifenesin (or glyceryl guaiacolate) per dose
The guaifenesin syrup for kids can be used to treat the following:
- Loosening and liquefying mucus
- Relief of cough associated with bronchitis, bronchial asthma, emphysema, and other bronchopulmonary diseases
