Description:
Hypertension: 50mg once daily, the dose may be increased,if necessary to 100mg daily in one or two divided doses. For the elderly over 75 years of age and for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment: Initial dose of 25mg daily. Diabetic nephropathy: Initial dose of 50mg once daily increased to 100mg once daily depending on blood pressure. Losartan is contra-indicated in pregnancy and breast feeding. It should be used with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis. Reduced doses may be required in patients with renal impairment and should be considered in patients with hepatic impairment. Patients with volume depletion (for example those who have received high dose diuretic therapy) may experience hypertension, which may be minimized by initiating treatment with a low dose of losartan. Serum-potassium concentration must be monitored to prevent hyperkalemia especially in the elderly and patients with renal impairment. Dizziness and dose related orthostatic hypertension, impaired renal function, rarely rashes, angioderma and raised alanine aminotransferase may occur.
